Nutrition is of the utmost importance, right from the beginning of a dog's life...and even before. Our Mommies and Daddies eat a combined balanced raw diet, human grade food, and food clusters.

We recommend Dr. Judy Morgan's book Yin & Yang Nutrition for Dogs: Maximizing Health with Whole Foods, Not Drugs.

Their raw diet makes up the vast majority of their food intake, however we sometimes supplement with The Honest Kitchen brand dehydrated food and food clusters. The Honest Kitchen uses only human grade food sourced from the United States. They offer quite a large variety, from chicken to duck. Our dogs are quite partial to the beef clusters. Here are the links to the ones that Pleasant Meadows most recommends for Cavaliers.

On days where we are not feeling our best or are traveling, we give our dogs food clusters from The Honest Kitchen. They resemble kibble, but with a much higher nutritional content. However, they do not compare with their regular raw diet, so this is for a treat or a rainy day.

The great thing about these are that they are fairly cost efficient to try out. You don't have to drop a lot of money on something your dog might not like. You can order a one pound bag of food for only $5.99.

When it's time for our puppies to wean, we start them on The Honest Kitchen's Puppy Blend and Goat Milk with Probiotics. Although puppies can thrive on a raw diet, we do not start our babies on a raw diet as this may not be something that their adoptive parents will want to continue. We try to make the transition as seamless as possible, so we use the food clusters. Parents can then slowly transition their puppy to the food of their choice. If any of our parents want to raw feed, we will offer guidance and support.
